Port of Brisbane dedicated freight rail corridor

By 2045, container trade at the Port of Brisbane is forecast to increase 300%, representing an increase of 4.8% per year. The 2015 Australian Infrastructure Audit identified that growth at the Port of Brisbane is likely to become constrained by the lack of a dedicated freight rail connection.

National Intermodal

Inland Rail

Inland Rail: is a fast freight backbone that will transform how goods are moved around Australia, generating opportunities for our regions and our economy, now and well into the future.

Independent review of Inland Rail released: undertaken by Kerry Schott AO the review confirmed that Inland Rail is an important project to meet Australia’s growing freight task, improve road safety and to help decarbonise our economy. The review also found significant deficiencies in the governance and management of Inland Rail.

South East Queensland intermodal terminal

In June 2022 Infrastructure Australia delivered a proposal that identified the need to provide appropriately configured intermodal terminal capacity with supporting warehouse infrastructure in SEQ to facilitate the operations of Inland Rail.

Ebenezer Regional Industrial Area

The Ebenezer Regional Industrial Area is a proposed manufacturing hub located 15 kilometres south west of Ipswich City Centre around Ebenezer. The greenfield site provides an opportunity to accommodate a mix of innovative, sustainable and best practice business and industry development.

West Moreton System

The West Moreton Rail System is the oldest coal railway in Queensland with sections progressively being opened between 1865 and 1898, and the railway line has been used to transport passengers, agricultural products including livestock, grains and cotton, and coal over the years. The railway is of 15.75 TAL construction and passing loops accommodate up to 673m trains.
